The service structure is an essential part of a development but can cause clutter when repairs are required.

Service corridors below pavements can have a negative impact on layout. Consider instead:

• Implementing service corridors away from the main street as this may be more direct and easier to service
• Fitting services into the landscape

To improve service provision:

• Co-ordinate design development with service providers early in the design process
• Put services underground in shared strips
• Hide equipment boxes or provide communal equipment
