Public Transport
New developments should provide for a direct bus route, or failing that easy access to an existing route.
Public Transport Catchments:
- A bus route will be viable if there are enough people within a 400 m radius. This generally requires a density of above 80 people per hectare
- Links to existing transport routes should be strengthened
- Few schemes will justify a light rail system/ tram and even fewer will merit a new train station
Encourage use of buses by making it a convenient option:
- Provide clear, direct routes to the bus stop
- Locate bus stops where activity takes place, near shops, a road junction
- Provide effectively provisioned bus lanes and bus priority at junctions
