Connections allow towns to work and provide a link to the wider world

Connections consist of roads, streets, footpaths, public transport routes, service utilities, etc. These are not just movement systems but contribute to the quality and character of the urban area.

Successful connections should take into consideration;

• Links - Direct links between new and existing developments should enhance integration
• Transport - Transport: Connections should give the public the maximum choice in how to make their journeys
• A sense of place - Roads, streets etc should be designed in response to the local context
• Safety - Maximising choice means ensuring all routes are safe.
• Parking - Parking needs consideration to ensure it does not adversely impact on the place.
• Traffic management - Layout of buildings and spaces can control traffic flow.
